Completing the Vocational Training Scheme to become a qualified GP  is a great achievement. Whilst some will want to go straight into a partnership many choose to start work as Salaried or Locum (Sessional) GPs. A growing number now look to have a portfolio career, combining Primary Care with other clinical work (such as GP in the Emergency Department and other primary-secondary care rotations are envisaged as part of the new models of care) or management and commissioning work, medical politics or mainly to achieve a better work-life balance. Starting out as a Sessional GP can seem daunting and complicated with numerous practicalities to overcome without the formal support you enjoyed as a trainee. To help you through we have prepared this Sessional GP webpage to link together the available resources; we are grateful to Wessex LMCs for allowing us to build on their original work. We hope you find this useful. Rest assured that there are any number of Somerset practices eager to hear from you!
