Locum Sessional Education and Training
The Somerset GP Education Trust (SGPET) was established in 2008 and is committed to supporting Somerset GPs in their learning, work and professional development through the provision and coordination of a wide range of educational activities throughout Somerset. We recognise the importance of this to GPs themselves, the practices they work in, and patients receiving care. We also fully appreciate the links between continuing education and revalidation, career progression and professional wellbeing. Local education events are not only important for CPD points but also provide invaluable networking opportunities.
SGPET is a joint initiative between Somerset LMC and SGPET
Like all GP Education trusts SGPET is a membership organisation with an annual subscription rate. For the year from April 1st 2018 this is £150.00 for all GPs, and when paid all education events are free to attend including the 4 day events at Fresh Looks in Taunton and Yeovil GP Update, If all the GPs within a practice join, any employed member of their practice team can attend relevant SGPET events without incurring a charge. Community Education Provider Network
Community Education Provider Networks have been set up right across the South-West on the directions of Health Education England. Their job is to help improve the capabilities and capacity of the workforce in primary and community care through increased education and training opportunities for individuals and teams across professional and organisational boundaries. So, for example, in the coming year the Somerset CEPN will be commissioning and organising - multi-professional workshops in end of life care across all localities in Somerset, education for HCAs in general practice and community care about caring long term conditions, frailty and dementia, training for practice staff about “Releasing Time for Care” and workshops to help GPs develop skills in mentorship and supervision of the new clinicians coming to work in general practice.
Recognising Somerset GP Education Trust’s (SGPET) work as the major provider of education activities for practice nurses and GPs in Somerset, Health Education England has awarded SGPET funding for 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 so the SCEPN will be based at SGPET and be receiving administration and organisational services from SGPET, which all GPs can access
