Covid medication pathway: Just a reminder that the pathway for assessment and prescription of these medications in high risk patients is now accessed via the patient calling 111 directly. There is no longer any need to refer via SPL. The current pathway for treatment for your information can be found here.
Updated 2WW Gynaecology pathway: Due to a significant increase in referrals to the 2WW Gynaecology pathway it has been necessary to review the 2WW referral form. This increase in referrals follows a national trend. Changes have been made in line with national guidance and best practice. The ICB’s, Trusts and LMC’s aim is to help all those referring under the 2WW Gynae pathway to provide the relevant necessary information needed to streamline the care of patients being referred. There are 2 new sections asking for clinicians to confirm that they have examined patients and have reviewed the results of the USS prior to the 2 WW referral being made, and, if referring patients with PMB on HRT that the HRT has already been stopped for 6 weeks. For more information, please click the link in the title above, here is also a link to a copy of the new referral form.
Evidence Based Interventions: The latest guidance on evidence based interventions has recently been launched onto TeamsNet CSI - Individual Funding Requests (clarity.co.uk). The Fertility Assessment and Treatment Policy has been recently updated Fertility and Assessment Treatment Policy 2223.V7b_316 (1).pdf
Southwest Pathology: They have been trialling a new Paper Lite project as part of one of our ESG initiatives. From September 2023, SPS are rolling out a process change for the transport of vacutainer-based samples between GP practices and the laboratory. The benefits of this change include an improved laboratory service for GP practices, an increase in sample quality, enhancing laboratory efficiency and reducing waste by up to 40kg per week. Please see here for further details.
National Seasonal Influenza guidance 2023/24: We have updated our website with the Enhanced Service Specification, Childhood Seasonal Influenza Programme Vaccination programme and the Enhanced Services V&I business rules for this years programme.
Shingles vaccination changes: From the 1st September, more people will be eligible for the shingles vaccination. As well as people aged 70 to 79, people who turn 65 (if they turned 65 before 1 September 2023, will be eligible for the vaccine when they turn 70) and those people aged 50 or over and have a severely weakened immune system. You can find more information here and eligibility for shingles vaccine here.
LMC/STH GP Recruitment Event, Taunton Racecourse Wednesday 6th September: Our latest popular GP recruitment event will be held at 4.30pm on Wednesday 6th September as a face to face meeting. This event will give GPs and GP trainees the chance to meet and talk to a wide variety of Somerset practices in one place. If you are GP or GP trainee looking for a job in Somerset please book here.
