- SGPET/LMC Websites Multi-Factor Authentication - FourteenFish have now introduced Multi-Factor Authentication, this will mean when logging into our websites a further step will be required. This seems to be quite simple with varied options of text/call/app notifications, however if you do experience any problems, you can contact FourteenFish here.
- SGPET Events Update from Dr Ian Boyland (Vice Chair) Hi everyone, Like the weather there is a downpour of SGPET events coming up. First up is at the Firehouse in Langport with a Dermatology session focussing on common presentations in Skin of Colour with consultant Mihaela Costache (7th March) . This is for anyone who see dermatology in primary care. There are still a couple of spaces left for good education and pizza.
Our next study day focuses on the head and neck (13th March). We have local experts from ENT presenting on ear infections and vertigo. Especially relevant at the moment with the current dental crisis and more patients attending primary care with mouth symptoms Mr Blanco-Guzman from Maxillofacial Surgery will be talking to us about oral lesions and in particular recognising oral cancers. Alison Hill from YDH is going to demystify iron deficiency without anaemia and how to support our patients with it. Mr Paritosh Shah is presenting sudden visual loss focusing on retinal conditions and importantly our role in preventing them. Whilst Mr Simon Frackiewicz will be talking about acute eye conditions.
Juliet Balfour is kindly offering a Testosterone for women masterclass on the 20th March. This is an online event and filling up quickly so please sign up asap to avoid disappointment.
I’d like to highlight the Metabolic Health Day (8th May) on the demonstrating the importance of lifestyle interventions in supporting our patients in the prevention and treatment of chronic illness. This day is suitable for anyone who may be supporting patients with healthy living.
We are also pleased to confirm our orthopaedic colleagues at Yeovil District Hospital will be running another joint injection session on the 1st May, venue to be confirmed but will be in the Yeovil area.

EXTERNAL EVENTS/RESOURCES
- Change to Supervision for Roadmap/FCP - an update from the Primary Care Academy - Due to the introduction of the NHS England funded First Contact Practitioner modules and the emphasis from NHS England for trainees to pursue their FCP verification through the Higher Education Institution (HEI) route, whether via taught course or e-portfolio. We will no longer be conducting the 2-day Roadmap Supervisor training course as FCP supervisor training now falls under the purview of the HEI.
However, the Southwest Primary Care Academy remains dedicated to supporting supervisor training and the continual growth of aspiring primary care supervisors, irrespective of trainee route or clinical background. Presently, we are in the pilot phase of developing a Multi-Professional Modular Supervisor Course (MMSC) designed for a diverse range of primary care health professionals. This course allows participants to tailor their learning experience based on the supervision they aim to offer within their practice.
Participants have the flexibility to select specific modules relevant to their desired supervision scope, eliminating the need to revisit Modules 1 and 2 if they are already certified as GP Clinical Supervisors or Educational Supervisors. This initiative aims to enhance supervision skills across various professional groups and broaden the breadth of expertise within primary care settings.
The Multi-Professional Modular Supervisor Course (MMSC) will replace the old RMSV course and will also offer support for Trainee ACP supervisors.
Here is an brief overview of the MMSC, please read carefully to ensure you meet to entry criteria before applying. To evaluate the need for this supervisor training, kindly complete the Expression of Interest form . Your submission is crucial for us to determine the demand and necessity for this development, with the goal of offering places for all Module 1, 2, and 3b from May onwards.
