Somerset Respiratory Guidance: These important guidance documents outline Somerset Respiratory Programme Groups view on inhaler switching and Nebuliser guidance. I do hope they help clarify significant issues that have been raised over the last year in primary care.

2024 NHS England Advanced Practice Funding Application - EOI - Expressions of interest for 2024 applications for NHSE funding for trainee Advanced Practitioners (NHSE Approved MSc Advanced Practice courses) are invited. Employers can apply for up to 3 years funding (£8600 annually) to supervise and support trainees through the process. In addition, for those applying for apprenticeships, practices can apply for the Government Apprenticeship Levy to cover course fees. Further information can be found here and by visiting the South West Regional Faculty for Advanced Practice website . Trainees undertaking an approved MSc Advanced Practice course will need to meet the admission criteria for their chosen University and have employer support and an Advanced Practice role in place once qualified. For general practices in Somerset the applications are co-ordinated by Catherine Hayden, Somerset Training Hub Advanced Practice lead. Managers/Supervisors of prospective trainees please contact catherine.hayden@nhs.net to express interest or with any questions. Continuing trainees previously in receipt of funding will be contacted to review their applications in due course.

Cervical Sample Taker Training - Somerset - 10th & 24th May 2024

"More Skills and Less Pills" is a workshop on safer prescribing and supporting pain self-management, part of the Ten Footsteps Training series. Led by experts including Dr. Frances Cole and Dr. Emma Davies, it emphasizes engaging patients in self-care and using decision aids. Participants learn about pain's impact on health, core skills, and practical tips for shifting conversations towards self-care and local support. The workshop targets prescribing clinicians, pharmacists, and general practitioners, offering practical tools like the Live Well with Pain Health Check tool. - Screening Liaison Nursing Service Meet the Team, 25 March - Providing advice to primary care and screening teams to enable them to improve access to the screening programmes for the somerset learning disability population.
- The South West ICA awards are open for applications, offering opportunities for clinical research and training for health and social care professionals. Administered by NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research, the Integrated Clinical and Practitioner Academic (ICA) Programme aims to enhance research capacity in healthcare. Three levels of personal development awards are available: Internship (£12,500), Pre-doctoral (£15,000), and Post-doctoral (£25,000). An online session on March 25, 2024, will introduce the awards and address queries. Open to all, the programme seeks to nurture future leaders in healthcare research. Click here for further details.
