Covid Medication Assessment Service: We are pleased to share that Somerset ICB has worked with Somerset Foundation Trust and HUC (our NHS 111, out of hours and Clinical Assessment Service provider) to ensure that the people most at risk of serious covid infections in Somerset will have timely access to Covid medications. Those patients who are at highest risk of becoming seriously ill from covid and have a positive covid test can now access the Covid medication service by contacting 111. The service will be running seven days a week and will respond within 24 hours, providing assessment and prescription of oral antiviral covid medication, or for those who need it access to a service that can provide intravenous monoclonal antibodies. further detail here.
Somerset’s One Website for ALL Referral Pathways and Resources: From July 23, Somerset Primary Healthcare (SPH) is pleased to announce that this site Clinical Support Information (clarity.co.uk) is now available. They already have 40 services featuring content and this will continue to be developed. Please share this excellent resource with all staff members and ensure locums have access and are aware, this short video gives an overview of it. To share feedback or ask further questions please contact sphadmin@nhs.net.
Amendment to Annual Flu Letter 2023/24 – Addition of Secondary School Children (years 7 to 11): The government has confirmed an amendment to the 2023 to 2024 annual flu letter. It outlines the addition of secondary school children in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 to the programme. This includes those that are home-schooled and other children not in mainstream education. Providers should ensure they commence vaccinations as early as possible after the flu vaccine becomes available and complete by 15 December in line with the other school aged cohorts already announced.
Bariatric Surgery: The LMC have formed a working group on private care/NHS including bariatric abroad patients, we would be grateful if practices could complete this short survey to indicate the number of requests received and how they have been managed to date in order to have conversations with the ICB on how these patients are managed in the future. The survey closes at midday on Friday 14th July. Thank you to all who have completed this survey to date.

'As GPs when asked to jump, we may ask how high, but it is the LMC role to ask, why do we need to jump in the first place?’
