Skilled Worker Visa (Formerly Tier 2 Visa) Application Event: We have now arranged the live application event on the afternoon of 25th May at Taunton Racecourse, this is for practices to apply for the licence with supported help on the day, if you are struggling to find the dedicated time or simply do not understand the process please book your place to attend here. Once booked practices will receive an email with a list of the necessary documents needed for this training (also available here). Practices will need to apply for funding from the ICB prior to the event in order to be reimbursed. Further details on the Skilled worker Visa can be found here.
Emergency ICB on call Director: It has come to light this week that the contact details have now changed to 0303 033 9944, it may be worth practices updating their business continuity plans.
PC-SC Collaboration Forum (NB Early Date): Our next meeting is a ‘hot topic’ one, given over in its entirety to Referrals (and paperwork). Amongst other things we will be discussing; onward referrals, letters vs forms, the quality of referrals and importantly how can you find out who and how to refer? Please come along as this should be very relevant for both primary and secondary care. Emails concerning issues with referrals are ‘frequent attenders’ in my inbox, so it will be great to see as many people as can possibly make it there. Click here to join the meeting but please note it is a week earlier than usual on the 18th April 1-2 pm.
Many thanks Andrea andrea.trill@somersetft.nhs.uk 07585 120071.
GP in Somerset Filming: Here is the first in a series of films the team have been working on, the first is mainly aimed at patients giving an insight on what happens behind the scenes of General Practice and how they may be seen by other professions than a GP, do share widely. Its not easy being frontline in a system that is overwhelmed.
Need a New Boiler? Spotted in the NHS England update thought worth repeating…
Funding Opportunity - Boiler Upgrade Scheme: To support the decarbonisation of heat in buildings, the government is offering grants to help with the costs of green heating installations. This scheme is likely to cover many primary care practices and other small healthcare facilities that have a maximum installation of 45kWh.
A total of £450 million is available until March 2025, with one grant of £5,000 - £6,000 for a heat pump or biomass boiler per property to replace a fossil fuel heating system.
In line with the NHS’s commitment to reach Net Zero by 2045, using low-carbon sources of heat in our buildings will reduce the NHS’s total carbon footprint, mitigate the health harms of climate change, and most likely reduce your energy bills.
Please visit boiler upgrade scheme website for information on the application process and eligibility criteria.
Somerset LMC/Training Hub GP Recruitment Event 3rd May at Taunton Racecourse: Our latest popular GP recruitment event will be held from 2pm on Wednesday 3rd May as a face to face meeting. This event will give GPs and GP trainees the chance to meet and talk to a wide variety of Somerset practices in one place. If you are GP or GP trainee looking for a job in Somerset please book here. Somerset practices can book their table to advertise their vacancy here. Registration and participation is free. Please book your place by Friday 21st April, there are only a few spaces remaining.
Safe Working in General Practice (BMA) - Top Tips
Patient Participation Groups (PPG) are a crucial ally and resource for practices. We encourage practices to engage their PPGs and to openly discuss the challenges and pressures facing general practices both in general and locally.
And Finally...
Submissions are open for The Innovate Awards 2023 which celebrate innovation in health care. There are 11 award categories open and anyone working in integrated care communities – local authorities, care providers and other NHS health and social services can enter. The awards provide an opportunity to tell the story of those who have collaborated and developed new initiatives to support better health outcomes for patients. Closing date for submissions is midnight 19 May 2023.
Kind regards
