Somerset Medical Examiner Service (SMES): The Medical Examiner System is a national pathway to ensure all deaths not under coronial jurisdiction, are reviewed by an independent Medical Examiner. The system will become statutory in April 2023 & therefore all care providers will be contacted directly over the next few months to introduce them to the processes developed for Somerset. To find out more and get any questions answered join Helen Gilliland (Lead Bereavement & Medical Examiner Officer SFT) and the LMC on the 30th March 1-2pm. Please register here.
Tier 2 Licences (no apology for being a broken record): Approximately a third of our practices have now applied and have been granted the licence. 75% of our GP trainees are international medical graduates this year and will need sponsorship to stay working in the UK, many want to stay in Somerset, with some already asking about partnership. It would be great if all our practices obtain this licence in order to give these trainees a good choice of posts across the patch. The ICB are still funding practice applications. For more information on the process please see here and email somicb.pcn@nhs.net to gain ICB funded support. Don’t forget to inform the office once your licence is granted as we keep a full list of practices on the jobs section of the LMC website.
International Medical Doctors Experience Survey Spring 2023: A team from the University of Exeter is conducting research on behalf of NHSE and Health Education England. If you graduated outside the UK, finished your GP training in the past five years, and work (or have worked) as a GP in the South West region of England, we would like you to complete our online questionnaire. We will ask about your experiences, the challenges you’ve faced, as well as the support and help the NHS has and could offer.
The more people that take part, the deeper our understanding will be of how the NHS can better support you and your International Medical Graduate colleagues. Click here to take part in the survey. Please contact Alexandra Jager at a.jager@exeter.ac.uk if you have any questions or concerns before taking part. The information sheet available at the beginning of the survey will provide more detail on our research and how we will use your replies. The survey will remain open until 20th March 2023.
What Does Good Look Like-Taking Back Control in General Practice 12th September Taunton Racecourse: This will be a whole day event of presentations and break out groups, and is a joint workforce event organised by Somerset LMC/Somerset Education Trust and Training Hub, please save the date, more details to come.
