Clinical News/Updates
LMC Clinical Workstreams Survey: As some of you will be aware, Somerset LMC have been leading programmes of work with the ICB and secondary care on numerous referral pathways. There have been agreed outcomes but there has been some difficulty seeing implementation of them. These difficulties seem to be more notable of late with current system pressures. we have identified 4 areas of particular concern and we would be grateful if practices could answer this short survey to help inform this process. The survey will close on the 1st March at Noon.
Surgical Admissions to Musgrove Hospital: In addition to referring surgical patients through SPL, an alternative option now available is a direct referral to the on call SHO made through 01823 589539 (press option 1), 08:00–20:00 Monday to Friday.
CAMHS Referrals: The LMC have clarified the referral pathway to CAMHS. Though there is a new form, they confirm that they accept referrals via telephone referrals, EHA’s, emails, referral letters, self-referrals and the referral form.
Hydroxychloroquine Monitoring: As colleagues are aware annual monitoring (including fundus autofluorescence and spectral domain optical coherence tomography) is recommended in all patients who have taken hydroxychloroquine for longer than 5 years. It has been brought to our attention that some patients are being directed to local opticians for this. We can confirm that this is not appropriate and any requests for hydroxychloroquine monitoring should be directed to the Ophthalmology department of your local hospital NOT to a local optician.
Primary Care Library Snapshot Evidence: Every 2 weeks we will be sharing the results of an evidence search which has been requested in Primary care in Somerset. If you would like to make your own request please email Roxanne Hart at LibraryPrimaryCare@SomersetFT.NHS.uk.
What was asked? We are interested in switching from a model where patients come into clinic for their B12 injections to one where we teach patients how to self inject. Are there any lessons learned from other surgeries who made this change? Click for the answer.

Resources
Neurodiversity in the Workplace: Workplaces are mainly designed to suit the 90% of the population who are neurotypical. Rather than attempting to change neurodivergent individuals to fit with the workplace, we need to be supporting them. This guidance is to support employers and raise awareness of neurodivergence.
