BMA WEBINAR - THE HEALTH AND CARE BILL: The BMA is holding a member webinar on the Health and Care Bill: What it means for you and what you can do about it – on Wednesday 17th November, 7-8pm. Registration - The Health and Care Bill: What it means for you and what you can do about it (bma.org.uk) The BMA believes that if this Bill is passed, it will usher in drastic changes to the NHS in England, impacting the working lives of doctors, and that urgent and significant changes must be made to it.
CHANGES TO CCG SAFEGUARDING TEAM: The CCG have made changes to their team and welcomed three new Members, Toyah Carty Moore, Julia Mason and Emma Read, full details here, for all enquiries please use somccgsafeguardingandcla@nhs.net.
READING WELL: This is a national scheme supporting people to understand and manage their health and wellbeing using helpful reading. The books on the reading lists can be recommended by a health professional and taken free of charge from a local library, or users can self-refer and borrow the titles as they would any other library book. All Somerset libraries stock the collections. The books are all recommended by health experts, as well as by people with lived experience of the conditions and topics covered and their relatives and carers. There are five booklists available that are targeted at different age groups: we have created a webpage that contain links to these lists as well as a GP information pack, including artwork for plasma screens.
FREE UWE PLACES: We still have 3 unused funded Contract places from last year for “Promoting Sexual Health in Practice – Start date 10.01.22”. If you are able to use any of them please send names to Carol.hobbs4@nhs.net by 19th Nov 2021. This is on a first come first serve basis.
BRIEF SURVEY INTO THE MANAGEMENT OF IBS IN PRIMARY CARE: King’s College London, are currently carrying out research that aims to capture how Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is diagnosed in clinical practice by General Practitioners (GPs) and the dietary advice provided to patients with IBS. They have asked us to forward this short survey that should take no longer than 5-8 minutes. Upon completion of the questionnaire, participants will be eligible to enter a prize to win a 32GB iPad. This research has been approved by the research ethics committee, information gathered will only be used for King's College research.
LMC OFFICE CLOSURE WEDNESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER: We are closing the office for Team training next Wednesday 17th November, the phone lines will be open and answered so please do call if urgent, any emails will be responded to as soon as we can.
Some good news...
RSV: There is good news regarding management of the current RSV surge in primary care. Despite above average numbers of children attending both primary care and A&E with wheezy episodes they are mostly not needing admission. The assumption is that this is due to the introduction of the new guidelines for managing wheezy children alongside the distribution of paediatric oxygen saturation monitors to all practices. The number of admissions is now in line with expected levels for the time of year having increased in October. Of note both primary and secondary care have noted that symptoms of RSV (and other viral respiratory illnesses) seem to be lasting longer than normal this year. Referral pathways.
Kind regards
