• Somerset Primary Care evening meeting: 'HRT update including guidance on progestogens and endometrial protection', 11 October 19.30 via MS Teams.

• Parental Leave webinar Autumn We have once again joined Surrey and Sussex LMC and Gloucester LMC to deliver virtual workshops for both clinicians preparing to go on parental leave and those that are returning, to register for these informative sessions please see the flyer here.

• Somerset New to Practice Programme, We are pleased to announce our newly developed ‘New to Practice Programme’ for general practice nurses.  Dates and timetable can be found here.  News for existing GPN Fellows can be found here.

• Somerset’s New Lipid Service: Dr Alex Bickerton has led the development of this new lipid service. He will be offering a variety of education options including a session within November’s Fresh Looks. For more information please see link, and in particular we would like to highlight the national guidance lipid-management-pathway-v6.pdf (england.nhs.uk) and Somerset’s Triglyceridaemia pathway PowerPoint Presentation (clarity.co.uk). Lipid Advice and Guidance has gone live this month, with currently capacity for good response times. Please continue to refer directly to the clinics for cases that definitely need to be seen, such as a family member of an index case of FH or definite FH with a Welsh Lipid Clinic score >5 or an extremely high Triglyceride.

EXTERNAL EVENTS/RESOURCES

• TWIG - Somerset Tissue and Wound Interest Group, will be hosted face to face at the Musgrove Park Academy (TA1 5DA) on Tuesday the 3rd of October 17:30-19:00. Topic focus of this TWIG will be Pressure Ulcer Prevention by the Tissue Viability Team. Sign up here

• NHS England (NHSE) leads the national Return to Practice (RtP) Programme for all branches of nursing and midwifery. In order to support employers to grow their workforce and to enable experienced nurses and midwives to return to the NMC register and back into practice, NHS England South West are funding an enhanced offer of an additional £5,000 per returner. This that will be paid to the employing organisation through the Education Contract payment schedule. This offer is in addition to the traditional Return to Practice (RtP) Programme. • Deep breath is a free, wellbeing podcast for GPs, exploring the highs and lows, providing time to reflect on those grey areas of medicine. There are a number of others out there but we thought we would highlight this as it’s been listened to by a number of people in the county and highly recommended.
