PATHOLOGY LABORATORY SERVICES OVER BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Date sent: Wednesday 8 April 2020
All Somerset GPs and Practice Managers
Dear Colleagues
The LMC has spoken to the SPS Director Dr David James. There will be no regular collection of samples from practices on Good Friday or Easter Monday owing to the lack of time that would have been needed against the rapid change in NHS planning that took place.
For the few clinically critical samples that may need to be tested on those days please speak to the Haematology or Biochemistry technician on call through your local hospital switchboard and arrange for the sample to be delivered to the hospital lab as soon as possible. Include your mobile phone number for the result to be sent to you. Alternatively consider speaking to the relevant on call hospital team to arrange for the test to be done there while the patient waits.
For other routine biochemistry in yellow tubes centrifuge and refrigerate until Tuesday. Samples in purple EDTA or blue citrate tubes do not store well.
Kind Regards
Jill
