NHS England are inviting doctors who are on the performers list to apply to become a Medical Appraiser within NHS England South West (South Gloucester, Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and IOS, Dorset, BANES, Gloucester, Swindon & Wiltshire) working within a local geographical location.
We are recruiting for the following areas within the South West and looking for appraisers who are willing to travel and are flexible. We require new appraisers to cover the following areas:
Gloucestershire
BANES
Swindon
Wiltshire
Bristol
Frome
Shepton Mallet (Mendip)
Somerset/Somerset Coast
Weston-Super-Mare
South Glos
Plymouth
Exeter
South Hams
South Devon/Teignbridge/Torbay
North Cornwall
East Cornwall
West Cornwall (including Falmouth)
Mid Cornwall
North Devon
Truro/Camborne/Redruth
Dorset
The role of GP Medical Appraiser is to appraise General Practitioners in accordance with NHS England Medical Appraisal Policy, specifically:
To carry out appraisals in accordance with GMC guidance and the Revalidation Support Team Medical Appraisal Guide
To ensure that the appraisal covers the whole scope of doctors’ practice
To review progress against the previous years’ PDP and agree with the doctor the current year’s PDP
To ensure that each appraisal summary provides adequate information for the Responsible Officer to make appropriate recommendations regarding revalidation
We are looking for experienced doctors who are currently working as GPs with a minimum of 3 years experience to join our team of appraisers across the South West.
The role would require undertaking between 8 and 20 appraisals per year and attendance at 3 training sessions annually (2 Regional & 1 Locality). Appraisers are paid £546.00 for each appraisal (plus superannuation if relevant).

Anticipated interview dates are the 4th April, 6th April (AM), 7th April and 11th April 2022 to be held virtually on MS Teams.
Successful applicants will be invited to complete a two-day training course which will be held on the June 22nd and 23rd June which may be held virtually or may be face to face depending on the rules at the time.
