Cheerful GP sought for a friendly, high-performing practice in the heart of the Blackmore Vale

Gillingham Medical Practice is looking for a new GP to join our sociable, committed team. We can offer salaried, salaried with a view to partnership, or partnership roles, and would ideally like someone for six to eight sessions a week. Terms and conditions are open to negotiation for the right candidate, so please get in touch if you are interested.

We have a stable team of six GP Partners, as well as a wonderful Salaried GP who started here as a Registrar and who we hope will become a Partner. We also have two highly experienced Nurse Practitioners, a Diabetic Nurse Prescriber, and a Specialist Paramedic who picks up the vast majority of the visits. We also, through our Primary Care Network, have weekly First Contact Physiotherapy sessions, a Clinical Pharmacist, and a thriving social prescribing offer which actively involves our patients and the wider community. We will shortly have weekly First Contact Mental Health sessions, too.

We have two sites, and host the District Nursing and Health Visitor teams, as well as podiatrists, CMHT and midwives. We are a research practice and a training practice for GP Trainees and medical students, and regularly host work experience students. We are also very investing in developing our own team, and encouraging people to pursue areas of interest.

We are a forward-thinking Practice that still focuses on traditional family medicine – we have laptops, are becoming increasingly paperless, have introduced eConsult and Workflow Optimisation, and are very open to new opportunities, but we have excellent relationships with our patients, the wider community and, vitally, within our team. Our Primary Care Network is starting to gain recognition as a nimble, effective example of collaborative working – we are small enough to tailor our projects to our population needs, but large enough that we have a voice and sufficient financial support.

In terms of workload, we have a mix of pre-bookable and book on the day appointments, which tends to keep the number of face-to-face appointments to approximately 12 in the morning and 12 in the afternoon. We are very open to building your appointment structure around you, and the supportive and collaborative nature of the team means that working here is enjoyable and rewarding.

We have a strong commitment to work: life balance, and many of the Partners have school-age children. Gillingham is in an excellent area for schools, housing and leisure. There are great local State schools, as well as some top tier Public Schools, including Port Regis, Bryanston, Sherborne School and St Mary’s Shaftesbury. The thriving towns of Frome and Bruton are within easy reach. We are surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and have a mainline railway station (two hours to London Waterloo). We are within easy reach of the A303 and A30.

If you are interested, or would like a chat or informal visit to find out more, please email katie.pearce@dorsetgp.nhs.uk. You can apply via NHS Jobs, or by sending a CV to Katie (our Practice Manager).
