Background to Somerset Training Hub - Website

Community Education Provider Networks are being set up right across the South-West on the directions of Health Education England.  Their job is to help improve the capabilities and capacity of the workforce in primary and community care through increased education and training opportunities for individuals and teams across professional and organisational boundaries.  So, for example, in the coming year the new Training Hub will be commissioning and organising - multi-professional workshops in end of life care across all localities in Somerset, education for HCAs in general practice and community care about caring long term conditions, frailty and dementia, training for practice staff about “Releasing Time for Care” and workshops to help GPs develop skills in mentorship and supervision of the new clinicians coming to work in general practice.

Somerset Training Hub will achieve these and other initiatives by working with all relevant providers of education.  Recognising Somerset GP Education Trust’s (SGPET) work as the major provider of education activities for practice nurses and GPs in Somerset, Health Education England has awarded SGPET funding for 2016-18 and 2018/19 so the Training Hub will be based at SGPET and be receiving administration and organisational services from SGPET.

We believe Somerset Training Hub can use education as a real lever for change and help the existing primary care and community care workforce feel more confident and capable and help develop the new style of workforce that is necessary to meet the demands and challenges we face.

Details of education events being held can be found on the Somerset GP Education Trust website, under courses .  Events specifically being run by the Training Hub will have this in the title of the event and will state if there is a fee.  SGPET events are run for Somerset GP Practices.
