Dean Cross Surgery
Plymstock, Devon
PL9 9DL (View on a map)

Due to relocation of one of our salaried GPs we have an opportunity for a salaried or partner GP to join our team.  We are a forward thinking 5 partner practice with 2 salaried GPs and 2 nurse practitioners.  We have fantastic nursing staff and consistently excellent patient feedback.

The practice is situated in Plymstock on the eastern outskirts of Plymouth, within easy reach of the A38, beautiful Dartmoor and beaches.  We have a list size of 10,400 patients, and are high QOF achievers.  We are also train medical students and we are involved in some exciting collaborative projects with neighbouring practices.

Ideally we are looking at 6-8 sessions but would consider fewer or a job share.

Start date Jan 2019 but we can have some flexibility in this date.

We welcome visits or discussions.

Reference from Dr Hall, outgoing GP:

“I joined Dean Cross Surgery 6 months after qualifying from VTS to become their first salaried GP at the practice. What struck me about the surgery initially was how friendly and supportive the whole team were when working as a locum. All the GPs prior have all stayed until retirement and I therefore concluded it must be a lovely place to work, on reflection this has well and truly been the case. The only reason I am leaving is to relocate to New Zealand.

When starting they offered me a GP ‘mentor’ and I soon came to realise all the doctors and all the staff were more than happy to answer my questions. I inherited my personal list of patients but this was done gradually. I cover a coil and implant fitting session once every 3 weeks alongside Dr Westwood. I am buddied with her so when away on annual leave we cover each other’s paperwork. I work the weekly pro-rota duty and in this role I also supervise the Nurse Practitioners who help with the duty day. The surgery provides extended hours and I have chosen an early morning clinic every other week but this is also flexible to evenings instead.

My clinics are set up how I like to work the day and each partner has this setup individually. I attend monthly clinical / governance meetings and these are also an opportunity to discuss difficult cases. The team are supportive of study leave and have funded courses for me to attend. They are currently with Microtest Evolution but planning to switch to System One very shortly. They are happy for any input on improvement or new ideas to their service and since working here I have implemented changes in how the family planning clinic runs. Overall I really enjoy working here and I am very sad to leave the surgery, staff and patients.

I would certainly recommend Dean Cross Surgery to any GP.”
