GP – Bruton Surgery

At Salaried (including Newly Qualified), Employed or Consultant level

Exceptional opportunity with this innovative new style primary care/general practice provider at our Surgery in Bruton, Somerset’s up and coming prime location. Up to 8 sessions with attractive and comprehensive remuneration package; excellent relocation support.

This vacancy is for up to 8 sessions per week, working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; however we are also very open to part-time applications. A special interest in a particular area of healthcare would be an advantage, but a willingness to muck in and work with our dedicated team is a must. For individuals seeking leadership opportunities, the Rural PCN are looking for a Clinical Director, there is therefore the potential for the right candidate to combine both roles.

Symphony also welcomes and supports newly qualified GPs by providing a GP Mentorship Scheme and supporting the NHS GP Fellowship Scheme so that you hit the ground running. We also have 2 qualified GP trainers at Bruton so we can support you if you are at the start of your career.

Bruton - Our Practice & Town

Our practice list is about 6,000 patients so small enough for you to know our patients well, but we’re also part of Symphony, the largest GP provider in Somerset so benefit from the experience and learning across a network of 20 practices. As a practice, we provide care as a multi-disciplinary team including GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners and are supported by an MSK physio, dermatology specialist and social prescribers while our Clinical Lead is the CVD lead for Symphony.

We can offer the best of both worlds – a small, country practice in a rural idyll yet with the support of a network of practices behind you so you can concentrate on patient care. Intrigued? Please read on…

Our transport links are great - we have fast links to London, Bristol, Exeter and Bath by rail or road. And Bristol, Bournemouth, Southampton and Exeter International Airport links Somerset to the world.

Newly fashionable Bruton has established a reputation for excellent properties; as have many surrounding villages and hamlets. As the Visit Somerset website says, “Bruton is a bit of a one off, even more so than every Somerset town” with first class eateries and restaurants, fine shops, local artistic ventures, and excellent private and state schools including three boarding schools.

The role

You would undertake all the clinical duties associated with a GP working in primary care, without the responsibilities and risks associated with being a partner. We can offer opportunities from trainee through salaried to consultant level GP posts depending on your experience and the level of responsibility you take on at the practice.

All GPs working for us are paid as Employees, unlike Partners, which means less risk for you and more time to focus on patient care. We put patients first, with our Employed and Consultant GPs working flexibly according to need, so contributing to areas such as QOF, QI and research projects providing a huge amount of variety to the role. However, our Salaried GPs have a clearly defined job plan setting out the hours of work and responsibility and tasks associated with the role.

About Symphony Healthcare Services

Symphony Healthcare Services was established in 2016 as part of the award-winning Symphony Programme Vanguard, developing new models of care. We now support 20 practices across Somerset (including one in Devon) providing care for 120,000 patients.

We are a subsidiary of Yeovil Hospital, and providing NHS services is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with our practice teams to support, develop and transform patient care and working practices with innovation and technology at the heart of what we do. We also work hard to make sure primary care has a loud voice in Somerset.

Bruton Surgery joined Symphony Healthcare Services in 2019 and with their support has implemented several new initiatives to improve care and how we work. Our practice is also working towards becoming a GP training practice. By working at scale in primary care in Somerset we can offer you the opportunity to develop specialist skills with the support of a larger organisation to develop your GP career.
