Employed GP Opportunities at Martock & South Petherton Surgeries

Martock and South Petherton are two delightful adjoining villages nestling in the beautiful Somerset countryside.  Houses made from the local golden Hamstone, thatched cottages and imposing Georgian  properties of Bath stone make this an extremely attractive place to live. In fact, quite recently,  South Petherton was voted one of the best places to live in England.   In close proximity to the cities of Bath, Bristol and Exeter with good rail and road links one can be in the heart of culture, shops, businesses and entertainment in no time.  The area is supported by several excellent hospitals, Royal United Hospital, Bath, Bristol Children’s Hospital and Southmead, Bristol,  Royal Devon and Exeter, Yeovil District Hospital, Musgrove Park, Taunton,  all of which offer  opportunities for diversification to any incoming practitioners

The area is ideal for families who enjoy the outdoor life. The Jurassic coast is within easy reach and Exmoor and Dartmoor are just waiting to be explored.  The beautiful Blackdown and Quantock Hills ; the Blackmore Vale, the Mendips, all these offer plenty of activities to enable one to unwind after a busy and fulfilling day at work.  If it is a round of golf you want, Long Sutton, Sherborne and Yeovil offer first rate courses.

There are excellent local state schools and access to some of the top private schools, Millfield, Kings Bruton, Wellington, and Wells Cathedral School are close by.  Social life varies from the outdoor activities to the more cultural pastimes encompassing Bristol Old Vic, Bath Theatre Royal, local museums and historic houses such as  Longleat, Montacute, Barrington Court and Stourhead.  And, if you are into festivals, Glastonbury is on the doorstep!   Local events at David Hall in South Petherton and The Octagon theatre in Yeovil, there is so much going on here.  Come and see for yourself, take a weekend break, bring the family. We would be happy to meet with you and show you around.

The local GP Practice covers both villages with two purpose built surgeries, one attached to the local Community Hospital at South Petherton which also has a co located pharmacy open until 11.00pm most nights.  The combined practice list size is approximately 11,500.   The practice has had its problems, we won’t shy away from this fact and what we desperately need now are forward thinking, energetic doctors, motivated by challenge to continue the turnaround and help us to restore our practice to its former glory.  The two long serving permanent GPs have worked so hard to keep the practice going and are highly regarded in the community.  The practice has recently employed a paramedic, two nurse practitioners, the shared services of a palliative care nurse and mental health nurse.  We are aware of the national recruitment problem but know that working with us will energise and inspire you.

We can give you the opportunity to create your own bespoke job, maybe one day a week day in the hospital emergency department, clinical trials, specialist clinics, anything that is of specific interest to you , we will do our utmost to accommodate your requirements, while encompassing a sufficient work-life balance.

Martock and South Petherton Practice now forms part of  Symphony Health Care Services , a wholly owned subsidiary  of Yeovil District Hospital and, as such, offers an excellent level of support for our doctors and staff.  Unlike privately owned practices, SHS offers a high level of administrative support enabling the medical staff to concentrate on being the clinicians to which they aspire..

The practice is also fortunate in having a lively, proactive and supportive Patient Participation Group.  The PPG meets monthly and works hard to educate and inform patients about the rapid changes in primary health care as well as holding various events to fund raise and bring together the practice and the local community. At our 2019 AGM, over 200 people attended.

So, are YOU what we are looking for? Can you rise to the challenge and help us achieve our goal as a   model of superior local health care.  Come and talk to us, phone us, e mail us, feel free to contact us for more information ….and come and see for yourself what you are missing.
