This is a repeat session for your Lead Document Handler, GP Champion and Practice Manager if they haven't already attended the initial sessions or would like to re-attend. Places are only available to one document handler, GP Champion and Practice Manager, please do not book places for other members of staff.
This half day workshop is designed to give key practice personnel the wherewithal to begin to implement a safe and effective system of correspondence management, operated by suitably selected and supported non-clinical members of staff. Overseen by a “GP Champion” and (at least initially) the Practice Manager.
Premise
A rapidly growing number of practices have successfully implemented systems for non-clinical members of staff to manage the majority of patient correspondence (results, letters etc.) without reference to GPs. In our experience, 70% of correspondence can be dealt with in this way. Half the rest is for a GP to see, but needing no further action. And the remainder (perhaps 15% of the total) will require a GP to see AND act. This can save an hour or more per day of a GP’s time.
EPI has been operating for 15 years. Specialising in professional skills and organisational training. By GPs, for GPs. EPI’s lead trainer designed and implemented a meticulous system in her own practice and remains the “GP Champion” there. This training in Somerset is organised by Somerset LMC and paid for by a fund made available to the CCG by NHS England as part of the GP Forward View.
A GP Champion and the Practice Manager are critical to the success of such a change in your practice. You MUST send a GP and your Practice Manager if you intend to take advantage of this opportunity. (If a GP and Practice Manager attended one of the initial sessions then it is not necessary for them attend this session).
If you have a non-clinical member of staff already working as a senior coder, or if you have already identified a member of your non-clinical staff that you intend will become a Document Manager, then they are invited to come along.
