Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
The HSE have stated that the use of an AED should now be included as standard on all workplace first aid courses. The bulletin asks that all training providers introduce training and assessment in AEDs into first aid courses by the end of 2016. The HSE does not expect every first aider to have an in-depth knowledge of AEDs, but learners will need to cover the correct placement of AED pads and following AED instructions.
Blended Learning
The HSE have announced that Blended Learning is now an accepted means by which workplace first aid training can be delivered. This means that training providers can now deliver first aid qualifications using a combination of face-to-face classroom training and electronic distance based training. However, the HSE also state that it is an employer’s duty to ensure they are satisfied that the training is as effective as face to face learning, and that their training provider has adequate systems in place to support Learners and prevent identity fraud.
