Indemnity Cover for Locums Working through Private Limited Companies Sessional doctors have chosen, for tax and other reasons, to work through their own private limited company rather than as freelances. In most circumstances, this has no particular effect on their relationship with the employing practice but we understand it could possibly cause problems with indemnity cover. A sessional GP elsewhere in the country has been named in a negligence action that also includes a number of others, but the private company through which the GP works has also been named. There is a concern that the private company does not have its own indemnity cover, which could leave the doctor ( and possibly other parties) exposed. At least one of the MDOs has issued reassurance that its members are fully covered whether freelance or working through their own company, but practices are advised to check with any locum working in this way to verify that they are fully covered.
Negotiating Skills Training for LMCs run by the GPC 3rd October Engineers House Bristol. This is a one-day course on how to develop negotiating skills that will enable you to become an effective and successful negotiator. The aim of the course is to enable understanding of different types of negotiating principles, identifying the different phases of negotiation, recognising the habits of success, understanding the importance of preparation as well as recognising ways to handle breakdowns. The GPC have 5 places remaining if you would be interested in attending please e mail the LMC office for further detail and to book one of these places by Friday 1st September lmcoffice@somersetlmc.nhs.uk
