GP Career Plus Are You Thinking of Leaving the Performers List? Would you be Prepared to Think Again? The New GP Career Plus Scheme may change your Mind
Somerset Primary Healthcare has won a contract with NHS England to provide one of the nine national pilot schemes looking at innovative ways of improving GP retention. GPs leave the profession at all stages of their careers but sometimes the right kind of support might encourage them to stay on the Performers List and remain in the primary care workforce in some capacity.
The Somerset scheme aims to recruit an initial eight doctors who might otherwise be lost to general practice and it has three components. Participants are employed at attend two educational sessions a month, organised by the LMC, which can cover any topic that group members feel would be helpful, and these groups will also provide peer support and a discussion forum as well. There is to be a “concierge” service that will provide PA type help for doctors with the bureaucracy and paperwork of maintaining their registration, and finally there will be help with identifying and finding suitable sessional or other work.
We hope to start the scheme in June, so if you are interested please do contact either rachel.stark@eastquaymc.nhs.uk jill.hellens@nhs.net or Harry.yoxall@somersetlmc.nhs.uk as soon as possible.Thank you
IFRP and Referral for an Opinion The LMC has been assured by the CCG that GPs remain free to refer patients for a specialist opinion even if any procedure subsequently advised will require an IFRP form to be completed. The LMC believes that in such cases it is primarily the responsibility of the hospital specialist recommending the procedure to do this.
We have also been assured that referrals are not blocked at the RMC because the letter includes a reference to, for example, a joint ganglion.
If you have a problem with a referral for an opinion for one of these or any other reason please can you contact the LMC office so we can take the matter up with the CCG
