• Respiratory Study Day, Wed 23 Oct, Taunton Racecourse - Last few places remaining

• RE-STARTING! Somerset First 5 Meeting  Thurs 24th October, 8-9.30pm, The Firehouse, Curry Rival, Langport. These meetings are open to GPs within the first 5 years of qualification and new GPs in Somerset to enjoy an educational and informal discussion evening with a main topic discussed followed by open meeting.  The dates in future will be a mix of in person and online sessions, and we hope can create a supportive group for new GPs who would like to take part.

• Health inequality GP Fellowship in Somerset: NHSE are offering a 12 month GP Health Inequality fellowship between Nov 24-Jan 25, in memory of two colleagues, Sheila Pietersen and Helen Cotton. Closing date 31st October 2024. For more info- please see here.

• The National Education and Training Survey (NETS) - NETS 2024 opened last week on Tuesday 1st October 2024 and will close on Tuesday 26th November 2024. The NETS is the only national survey open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, trainees and learners undertaking a practice placement or training post in healthcare as part of their education and training programme.    

• For all health coaches. You can now sign up for free training designed to help you support new dads in your community. This is an important initiative to address the unmet health and social needs of fathers and their families, helping them thrive.  As an added bonus, each practice that sends a coach will receive a £100 payment and a "New Dad’s Supporter" badge to proudly display on their website or materials.  Sign up by 25th October. Your involvement can make a big difference in families’ lives. Spread the word to your health coach contacts and help us achieve great engagement across the county.

• NHSE & NIHR South West Autumn Research Internships Awards

• NHS England South West is conducting a survey to assess research capabilities and culture within primary care staff across the region. CLICK HERE to complete the survey.   Based on a tool developed by Queensland Health and Griffith University, the questionnaire asks participants to rate research capacity at both organisational and individual levels. The results will support research capacity building in the South West. The survey takes 10 minutes to complete. For queries, contact Dr Kate Lippiett at kate.lippiett1@nhs.net 

• The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) and NHS England have launched the 2024-25 Newly Qualified Pharmacist Programme (NQPP), a fully funded 12-month initiative to build confidence and competence in pharmacy practice. Educational supervision is provided by CPPE.

  Key dates:

  -Cohort 7: Applications open 2nd Sept 2024, close 28th Oct 2024, programme starts 4th Nov 2024.

  -Cohort 8: Applications open 13th Jan 2025, close 17th Mar 2025, programme starts 24th Mar 2025.

  Eligibility: Pharmacists registered from 2022 onwards, working in settings such as community pharmacy (excluding Boots), care homes, general practice (non-ARRS), and more. Pharmacists returning from a career break may also apply. ARRS-funded and hospital pharmacists are ineligible.  More information is available on the CPPE website, or by contacting the NQPP team at newlyqualified@cppe.ac.uk .  For further details please access the information leaflet here.
