- Chief Nursing Officer’s Research Fellowship Programme – Applications open for Primary Care. The Clinical Research Network in collaboration with the South West Clinical Schools across the region are offering research fellowship awards and access to outstanding research training delivered through established Chief Nursing Officers Research Fellowship Programmes in our NHS Trusts. Please see flyer here for more information around eligibility and application.
- There is an opportunity to gain a postgraduate qualification in Primary Care, part-funded (50%) for eligible clinicians in the Southwest. The program offers 60 academic credits over one year, with a blend of online learning and in-person sessions at the University of Exeter, starting in Autumn 2024. The course covers advanced clinical practice, principles of leading change, and community health improvement. Optional modules include health service management and mentoring. Funding is available for Southwest clinicians who meet the entry criteria. For further details click here or take a look on the University of Exeter's website.
- Pelvic and Spinal Masqueraders Webinar, (BNSSG Training Hub) 18th Sept, aimed at MSK First Contact Practitioners in the South West.
- Is your practice or PCN research active? There appear to be significant benefits in outcomes. Research activity in healthcare often improves outcomes when translated into practice, and may also enhance overall organisational performance. However, the causal impact of research is unclear, particularly in general practice, where most patient interactions occur. This study analysed national data from 2008 to 2019 to explore relationships between research activity and general practice performance in England. Cross-sectional analyses found positive associations between research activity and practice performance, including clinical quality and reduced hospital admissions. Research activity appears to indicate quality, although the mechanism by which it impacts performance remains uncertain.
