- Asthma Guidance - Update from David Long - Dear all, The NEW and radically different Asthma guideline is out for consultation. The joint BTS/SIGN/NICE guideline moves towards the same approach as GINA guidance using MART (ICS/LABA combination) as an approach to treat asthma. This is your chance to read and feedback to the committee before its launch later this year. It will also give you an idea of how your practice may change and how best you would approach this change when its finalised. You can read the consultation document HERE .

Attention: Nursing Associates - The Florence Nightingale Foundation and Nuffield Trust have been commissioned by NMC to look at Practice Environment and there will be a focus group for Nursing Associates which is currently underrepresented. As part of the its review of practice learning, the NMC has commissioned the Nuffield Trust, in collaboration with the Florence Nightingale Foundation , to undertake a study on practice learning opportunities across the United Kingdom. The research team are now seeking the views of nursing associates on various aspects of practice learning, including:
- the effectiveness of different types of practice learning opportunities
- new models such as simulated practice learning
- the views of practice assessors and practice supervisors
- opportunities, challenges and barriers and your ideas on what improvements are needed.
As part of this research the research team are inviting you to take part in one online focus group lasting no more than 1 ½ hours. Taking part will provide you with the opportunity to gain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, as it will count towards undertaking an activity that involves interaction with one or more other professionals. This can be in a physical environment or a virtual one. Please complete our form here to register your interest.

CYP SPIRO online study session on 9th July- Are you trained in adult spirometry but would like to be able to perform it in children?
This session will update you on performing spirometry in adults in line with the latest guidance and also how to perform it in children.
It will cover the differences in the test as well as the acceptability and Reproducibility criteria. There will be useful tips on achieving a good test in children. Improving access to diagnostics in children is very high on the national agenda and is discussed in detail in the national children and young people’s (CYP) asthma bundle. This session only 2 hours and would be valuable for those undertaking spirometry in children and young people.
