Clinical News/Updates
Dermatology Service Changes: Following a successful pilot using Cinapsis for dermatology referrals (including advice and guidance) in the east of Somerset, the system will roll out across the county on Wednesday 22nd May.
This is part of wider changes to dermatology in Somerset that aim to provide simple routes for both advice and for traditional referrals.
Cinapsis will become the single route for all non-suspected cancer referrals and other systems (REGO and DERMIS) will be discontinued. It is a teledermatology service and practices will have already received Dermlites to help with the taking of photographs.
Direct information has been supplied to all practices and is available via TeamNet by searching ‘advice and refer via Cinapsis’ or by emailing the advice and refer team.
The team are also running two drop-in sessions via MS Teams to run through the platform and answer any questions you may have.

Transfer of Care from Paediatrics to ADHD Team as they are Approaching Adult Age: The Somerset Adult ADHD Service is only commissioned to offer assessments and onward pharmacological treatment for people who do not have a pre-existing diagnosis.
- Young people who are waiting for an ADHD assessment by a Community Paediatric Service or the Child and Young People’s Neurodevelopmental Service, can be referred directly to the Somerset Adult ADHD Service.
- Young people who are reaching adult age and have been given an ADHD diagnosis and are undergoing or seeking pharmacological treatment should be referred to the Community Mental Health Team.
Weight Management Service Update: Thank you for your patience as we try and improve the waiting time for our service.
We are developing a new pathway with the aim of expediting patients to the bariatric surgery team on triage, and so have developed a new referral form to capture the information required to triage patients (approved by LMC and available on TeamNet). The key information we require is if patients would like to consider bariatric surgery or not (even if they are just interested to find out more about it before making a decision).
The referral form has been designed to be brief and easy to complete, but we appreciate not everyone will want to use it, in which case, please do indicate in a letter if the patient wants to consider bariatric surgery or not. If we don’t receive this information, we will not be able to triage the referral and will delay patient care.
The referral criteria has now reverted to the old criteria (on referral form and on TeamNet) in order to align with other policies, and so apologies for changing this once more.
Thanks again for your patience and any feedback would be gratefully received.

IF NOT NOW.... WHEN? Protect Your Practices, To Protect Your Patients. GPC England Officer Team Roadshow Webinar 20th June 19.00-21.00: Join the national GPC England team to hear about the GP campaign, understand the statutory ballot, and ask questions. They will be presenting the GPC England manifesto and sharing the BMA GP Practice Survival Toolkit to Protect your Practice, Protect your Patients. Register here.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism: Whilst the outcome of the consultation on the Oliver McGowan draft code of practice on statutory learning disability and autism training - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) is awaited, training is statutory for ALL health care providers. NHSE have confirmed that funding for this training will cease on 31st March 2025. The current suggested training is that everyone needs to do the online national e-learning training and then locally -if in Tier 1 to attend a webinar, and if in tier 2, to attend a face to face training offer. NHS Somerset guidance can be found here and the CQC guidance here.
