LMC RESPONSE TO GPC REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: Somerset LMC reported to the GPC that
1.  It is disengaging from participation in implementing the NHSEI Plan to improve patient access and support practices.
2.  It will collect any undated resignations from the PCN DES for the 2022 opt-out period
3.  It will be present at every CQC practice visit.

These decisions were made at an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening. The LMC will of course continue to speak to our CCG which is being as helpful and constructive as usual but felt it must support the national GPC position. The LMC has always offered support before, during and after all CQC inspections and meets regularly with the local CQC team.

LMC BUYING GROUP FLU 22-23: The website has been updated with information for the 2022-23 flu season. Current member practices have been sent this but not all Somerset practices have reregistered after GDPR.  Seasonal Flu Vaccines Offers 2022-23 .

HOSPICE SERVICES MYTHBUSTERS from Dr Kate Shorthose, Palliative Care Consultant: “Hospice care is only for cancer patients.” Wrong. Referral to the hospice services should be based on need rather than diagnosis. Evidence has shown that symptom prevalence both physical and psychological can be just as great in end-stage neurological, cardiac, lung and renal disease.  “The hospice is only for the patient” Wrong again. We support the whole family; with family and carer support services available tailored to need. Holistic care is central to St Margaret’s.

BMA GP TRAINEE COMMITTEE SURVEY: The BMA GPTC would be grateful if this link could be highlighted to all GP registrars whether BMA members or not. The survey has been designed over the past year with input from the representatives and staff from all four nations. They are gathering information about multiple aspects of training, working, the impact of COVID and future career plans. The survey will remain open for three weeks, closing on 13rd November. We feel that data from this survey will be pivotal in directing our future work and building our lobbying positions, so the more responses the better.

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING SURVEY: Primary Care is currently very much feeling the effects of the pandemic with patients being increasing challenging, workload rising and the vaccination programmes. As you will be aware the Somerset Emotional Wellbeing Hub has been set up to protect the Wellbeing of the whole health and care workforce including everyone in general practice. This has never been more important than now. We would like to gather anonymous data on how you are feeling in General Practice currently.  Please could you ask all of your staff to complete the survey on the link provided. Please note question 4, could you say which practice you are from and the job title. We will then collate the data and tailor support to the current needs within General Practice. We will leave the survey open for two weeks ending on 12 November 2021.

Kind regards

Jill
