• Yeovil GP Update - Next week 21-24 June 2020 -The Yeovil GP Update is still on this year, although unfortunately it is still on Zoom, it does mean that it is easier to anyone to attend. We have a great program lined up and topics that are universal for all of Somerset to reflect this.

  On Monday we have Dr Sibu Paul who is one of few Coeliac Disease experts in the UK followed by Su Down giving a diabetes update especially suited for those who aren't diabetes experts and then an endocrine discussion with Alex Bickerton, Hema Jagannatha and Su Down.

  On Tuesday Chris Campbell from Devon Docs is going to be presenting some dilemmas from OOH that equally apply to our in hours urgent care practice followed by an update from the LMC team on important changes happening in the county. In the afternoon Caroline Osborn is talking about breast disease and also the exciting innovation she is piloting in Yeovil of direct access breast referrals.

  Wednesday morning Jo Nichol is going to be talking about domestic abuse, and its impact on the person as well as their family. This will count towards the safeguarding hours we all need to demonstrate for revalidation as well as being an especially important topic at the moment. In the afternoon our community palliative care teams are running another of their very popular and thought provoking sessions on end of life discussions and implementation of TEP forms. In small groups using professional actors as patients this is a great chance to practice communication skills to improve patient care.  (Please note due to a lack of bookings these sessions are now just running the once and not twice as previously advertised)

  Thursday the 33N Team will be talking about Post Intensive Care Syndrome, Dr Steve Holmes will be covering Long COVID and Jo Morrison trained in Gynaecology Oncology and Colposcopy Trainer from MPH will hold a session in the afternoon on Vulval Problems.

• SGPET Respiratory Study Day - Changed date - Now,  29 September 2021.  This study day will be the first we hold as a Hybrid event, you can book to attend in person at Dillington House, Ilminster or choose to attend via a live Zoom webinar.  Full programme is still to be confirmed. But you can book your place either for in person, or remotely via the links in the education section below.

• Significant Event Analysis for Locums, 1pm-1.40pm, 15 July zoom meeting - SGPET would like to offer 3 SEA lunch time meetings during the year for sessional GPs. We know that discussing SEAs with colleagues can be challenging when working as a locum, and so we hope that these could help. It has been arranged as a short lunch time event so that even if you are working that day, you may still be able to join.   To establish maximum learning, could any interesting and anonymised SEAs be sent in before the event to Dr Catherine Ievers, who will be facilitating this meeting  catherine.ievers1@nhs.net 

• Somerset New To Practice General Practice Fellowship Programme for Newly Qualified GPs: Are you or do you know a GP that has qualified since October 2020 and is working in Somerset? If so, this funded fellowship programme may be of interest. It is a financially incentivised 2 year programme designed to provide personalised support to newly qualified GPs to help gain confidence and to develop enjoyable, fulfilling and sustainable careers in general practice. NHSE hope that 100% of newly qualified GPs take up this offer. Our next cohort will start in September 2021. See programme here. • New to Practice The GPN Fellowship Programme: Are you or do you know a newly qualified nurse or new to nursing in primary care? This is a 2 year fellowship linked to the above GP programme to support nurses and also provide a comprehensive education programme to address skills and knowledge required specifically when working in this field. Our next cohort starts on the 1st September. Applications are now welcome. More information can be found here. If you are not a newly qualified Nurse, but new to General Practice, there is also an option to join on a preceptorship basis more details here.
