Registration for new version of National Workforce Report System - a reminder: On the 1 April 2019, the National Workforce Reporting System (NWRS) was no longer being part of the Primary Care Web Tool (PCWT) and an email was sent to all registered NWRS users in practices asking them to create a new user account and password. By 10 June 28 practices had yet to register to NWRS. Annie Paddock of the CCG has a list so to see if you still need to complete your registration (column D Data Entry/No User) get in touch on annie.paddock@nhs.net, or mauretta.belton-simmons@nhs.net. Please ensure that your practice is registered and review and update the workforce data to ensure the accuracy of reporting as contractually required no later than 28 June - the next data extraction is on the 30 June. Once registered practices can extract data, trends and patterns to help their own workforce planning. If your practice cannot find the original email follow this link or contact NHS Digital by email, referencing 'NWRS Access Request' in the subject field and stating the practice’s M-code. If previously registered with the Primary Care Web Tool complete NWRS registration by completing the registration form here link. Further information and guidance is also available on the NWRS web page, or call 0300 303 5678 for assistance.
Child Health Intelligence Services: An update from Dr Paul Cundy, IT lead at GPC. “You will remember Health Intelligence were given approval by NHSE to implement a new way to collect vaccination… data to run call and recall services. [This involved CHIS extracting ALL patient data into a “black box” at their end which they then proposed to filter to extract the relevant information.] This was driven by NHS Digital no longer supporting the current Miquest extraction tool in part caused by the move to SNOMED, which Miquest does not recognise. I met with Philip Kirby from Health Intelligence (HI) and Maneesh Madan from InHealth (Health Intelligence’s parent company) last week. HI have accepted our concerns over their proposed new system [breaching GDPR]: it will not be implemented. They do however wish to expand their business using the Miquest tool. Practices can be assured that data extracts using the Miquest system is GDPR compliant and therefore they and LMCs can be reassured that it is OK to sign up to new services being offered by their CCG if they want to. Practices will need to carry out a DPIA and make sure their Processing Notices cover this sort of activity but it is highly likely they do already. If not, they will have to add it as a new processing activity to their Processing Register. This whole episode has highlighted the need for Miquest to continue to be supported until such time as an equivalent alternative is available and GPC will be pushing NHSE/NHSD for this.”
Important GPC Survey: Following the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan, the GP Contract changes and the GP Partnership Review the BMA would like to see what impact this has had on the morale of the profession now and the potential for the future. A brief summary of each is as follows. The NHS Long-Term Plan: States that the NHS will boost out of hospital care and dissolve the historic divide between primary and community care with an additional £4.5bn per year (increased from the original £3.5bn) by 2024. This investment guarantee will fund an expanded workforce, start to address the demand pressure and develop new services to meet relevant goals set out in the long term plan. It details how Primary Care Networks will be established as the vehicle to expand the workforce, significantly increase investment and address workload in general practice. The plan also details the requirement of community nursing and mental health teams configured on PCN footprints. The GP partnership review: an independently led review on the current partnership model of general practice. The key recommendations focused on addressing workforce and workload issues and also reducing the financial risk for GP partners to encourage and retain GPs in substantive roles. The new GP contract: key changes are the state backed indemnity scheme, reform of QOF and the PCN DES funds a significant expansion of the non-GP workforce over the next 5 years. A focus on quality of care with QOF changes and increased access to IT and digital resources for practices.GPC understands you may have “survey fatigue” but would value your input and the short survey will (really) only take five minutes. Medical Defence Union Legal Action: The Medical Defence Union has taken legal action against the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Unlike the MPS, they have not yet reached agreement on an existing liabilities scheme with DHSC. GPC issued a statement: "The introduction of the state-backed indemnity scheme in April, negotiated by the BMA as part of the five-year GP contract deal, was a huge step forward for hard-working GPs... GPs will be understandably concerned about the legal dispute between their MDO and the DHSC. The BMA continues to engage with all parties …and we would urge those in dispute to resolve these differences …through discussion and mutual agreement. All GPs can be confident that they remain fully covered both historically and [in the future].”
Our Health Heroes: a UK-wide campaign dedicated to celebrating and saying 'thank-you' to the thousands of unsung heroes who work in the NHS, social care sector, private healthcare and specialist healthcare services throughout the UK. If you would like to nominate an unsung hero, who deserves recognition for their hard work and dedication? If so, you can find out more or nominate by visiting www.skillsforhealth.org.uk/ohh Launched earlier this year, the awards are sponsored by Health Education England. Anyone can make a nomination, including members of the public. The eight award categories include special recognition for Operational and Clinical support workers, of which make up over 40% of the NHS, plus Outstanding Contribution Award, Apprentice of the Year, Integrated Team of the Year, Staff Wellbeing Employer, Workforce Planning Team of the Year and Learning and Development team/project of the year.
QMasters Evening Training Session – Wednesday 3rd July, Frome Medical Centre Conference Room 6.30pm-8pm: This is another chance to attend a QMasters training session if you missed the first one held in Taunton on 21st May.
This training has been designed for GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice Managers and will be delivered by Dr Miles Carter a GP Partner in Oxfordshire and the CEO of QMasters. We would strongly recommend attending this training to fully understand how QMasters can benefit the whole practice with saving time, maximising QOF income and improving clinical safety.
The topics that Miles plans to cover in this training session include the following:
- The financial importance of good quality clinical coding in EMIS Web.
- Using the Ardens QToolset to save time, maximise practice income, and improve clinical safety.
- How to achieve QOF targets quickly and efficiently.
- Introducing the Patient Recall system.
- Using EMIS Patient Access to reduce follow-up appointments.
- Use of dual screens to view Docman alongside EMIS Web.
- A solution to capture high quality skin photographs in EMIS Web.
- SNOMED-CT coding in EMIS Web.
- Using synonyms and protocols in EMIS Web to speed
Please book online here by Friday 28th June. It is important that you confirm your attendance as a buffet supper will be provided and we need to know the number of people who will be attending. Food will be available from 6.30pm with the presentation starting at 7pm.
Kind Regards
Jill
