Primary Care Networks action and support The GP Board and the CCG have put together this paper to make practices aware of the support that is available now and in the future for Networks
VAT & PRACTICES Lentells Chartered Accountants have produced some updated guidance on VAT which will be of particular interest to dispensing practices and also any considering new premises.
DBS Checks We been asked on numerous occasions if we could offer the online service for DBS to practices, unfortunately due to the small number that we process yearly this is not possible. We have therefore made the decision to work collaboratively with Avon LMC who have an online system with telephone support, as part of the LMCs buying group. This is easy to use and the disclosure results come back in five working days in most cases. Any applications made and paid for recently by practices will continue to be processed by our office, and the team will be in touch with those that have paid and not yet returned the forms and identification paperwork.
To use the Avon online service please visit their website and register in the DBS section https://avonlmc.co.uk/dbs-check/ after which you will be sent two documents to read, once you have confirmed acceptance of the terms you will be sent your unique log-in.
Although the applications are completed electronically Avon LMC are happy to offer support and guidance via telephone or e-mail.
Notes from PAG there was one case of a patient complaint following a telephone triage call where it was felt by the patient that the doctor was trying to avoid a face to face consultation - it was the overwhelming view of PAG members that practices who do a lot of telephone triage should consider investing in telephone recording systems so that any potential complaints etc can be addressed fairly, patients must be informed beforehand if the telephone call is being recorded
Doctors who provide spinal manipulation are warned that medical defence organisations will not cover you. Also GPs are warned that interventions you do which are not routinely done by other GPs will not be covered by the new medical defence arrangements
Practice Index Plus any practice that has yet to express an interest in a funded membership from transformation monies please do so by Friday 12th April to sphadmin@nhs.net 43 practices have signed up so far, if we can secure 50 there is a larger discount on the overall cost.
Blog on Indemnity Dr Mark Sanford-Wood, from the GPC Executive Team has written a new blog to provide an overview on the state-backed indemnity scheme. Read more here. practices may also find this link useful from NHS resolutions for any queries

Somerset GP Perinatal Mental Health Champion South West Clinical networks currently have 10 GP champions across the South West delivering free in house education for GPs in perinatal health, further detail can be found here and to book a session please contact Dr Caroline Dailley c.dailley@nhs.net
Theft from a Practice A practice in South Somerset has recently been the victim of the theft from a GPs handbag, experience shows that this is not always an isolated incident and we would recommend that practices are extremely vigilant
