GPC Contract Roadshow Wednesday 13 March 2019 at the Holiday Inn Taunton: At a regional LMCs meeting yesterday our GPC representatives were optimistic about the outcome of this year’s contract negotiations which is soon to be announced. Network working will be included giving further impetuous to the good work already started in Somerset. We have been lucky to secure one of the first dates so please do book your place early . We think that the tide might just be turning.
Notes from PAG GP practices should not use their list of patient addresses to contact patients for anything other than correspondence relating to their care. Certainly do not use the addresses for Friends of the Surgery to ask fro donations.
Have a high index of suspicion for non accidental injuries in frail vulnerable patients: a GP was brought to PAG having diagnosed 2nd and 3rd degree burns (probably from a kettle) as ammoniacal dermatitis from urine. When seeing a patient who cannot give a clear history make sure you put yourself in a position to exclude injuries.
Avoid codeine in breastfeeding mothers, including co-codamol. There has been a reported death of a baby.
PAG has also discussed the potential fragility of some small practices, particularly single handers.
Increase in employer’s superannuation contributions to 20.6%: there has been concern about where the extra money will be coming from next April but we are assured that Government will be fully funding this. Furthermore locums will be included meaning no extra burden on practices.
Flu 19/20 An updated letter on the vaccines for 19/20 can be found here. The LMCs buying group have also updated their information which can be found here
