Somerset Local Medical Committee Having held an election in March please find details of the LMC committee members and their constituency practices for the 2018-2022 term on the website here
SPQS The practice support team are currently working on guidance and templates for the 18/19 specification which will be circulated to all at the end of April.
GDPR We are currently pulling together information for practices on GDPR and will hope to send out a checklist and templates by the end of April, the GPC have developed a practice privacy notice for direct care that you can find here and are free to use. We are also talking to SPH and the CCG about a county Data Protection (DPO) officer/s Please remember that practices only have to have privacy notices and a named DPO in place by the 25th May, any other elements can be worked towards.
Suicide Audit A patient taking his or her own life is a thankfully rare event for any practice but in Somerset there are some 50 deaths every year attributed to suicide. The county council is statutorily obliged to investigate every incident of suicide or potential suicide (before the Coroner’s Inquest has decided). To this end it sends practices a simple questionnaire with a note on data confidentiality. However, surprisingly, only some 25% are ever returned. This may be because of confusion about the confidentiality matter - neither the Data Protection Act nor the imminent GDPR apply to the deceased – or simply because the suicide of a patient is such a rare event for most practitioners. In any event the LMC encourages practices to complete this important work that could ultimately assist reduce the number of these tragic events.
CQC fees for registered providers 2018/19 The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have written to practices regarding the confirmed fee changes which are now published on their website. We would just like to remind practices that these fees are fully reimbursable, a contractual change negotiated last year and written into the SFEs.
Updated indemnity information An updated briefing note on the indemnity payment has now been published on the BMA website. This provides examples of how practices should allocate payment to its GPs which is equitable and proportional based on their circumstances. We’ve also provided a template letter for salaried GPs to request confirmation of the amount they will be receiving.
