3rd part prescribing for GLP1 injectables

Updated on Tuesday 24 September 2024, 292 views

You will be aware that a number of patients are now seeking GLP1 injectable medications from private companies. Some GPs are receiving letters asking us for any reasons why the patient should not be prescribed the drug for weight loss etc. To limit our responsibility we can ask the provider to ask the patient to seek a summary of their patient record – a draft letter that can be modified is attached

Dear X name

Thank you for your letter informing us that you have decided to prescribed X, a GLP1 injectable medication, for one of our patients for weight loss.

Please can you ask the patient to provide you with a summary of their patient record which they can freely obtain from our Practice so that you are able to make a safe clinical decision about the medication you are deciding to prescribe.

You will need to arrange this via the patient themselves so that there are no GDPR problems.

Yours faithfully
