Tawstock Medical Centre

“A forward thinking family orientated training practice, set in beautiful Somerset”.

Hello, my name is Inge Alberts and I am the new Senior GP Partner of Tawstock Medical Centre (TMC) in Chard Somerset, and this is no normal job advert! Instead I am writing to share my passion for what we do at TMC with you, why I love my surgery and “Team Tawstock” loves what they do and why I think TMC should be the exciting next step in your General Practice Career!

Firstly, why now?

Our current Senior Partner is retiring, having founded TMC in 1994 and has since led the practice for the 25 years that followed, helping to build TMC into the surgery you see today. So this is creating the unusual (but exciting) opportunity to be able to offer a 6 sessions per week role for a salaried GP with a possible view to partnership (leasehold property, so no buy in) – if that could be you, keep reading!

So what makes us different?

Well, General Practice to me is everything, and beyond! It is about more than meeting targets and at TMC we are passionate about holding onto the foundations of all that Primary Care is, while being responsive to the changing demands and priorities of the service. We strive to provide holistic patient centred care, to build strong professional relationships with our patients and ultimately to make a difference every day for people in all walks of life – there is no job quite like it and we are proud of what we do and the service Team Tawstock is able to provide.

The surgery itself moved into a purpose built state of the art building in January 2014. The move gave us a modern building and spacious consulting rooms which are bright and airy, providing an excellent environment for us and our patients. For staff we have a good sized rest area with a microwave, fridge and dishwasher and free tea and coffee is supplied. There is access to outdoor seating and the surgery garden from the staff rest area. There is a large free staff and patient car parking area which allows level access to the surgery as well as bike parking and shower facilities for those who like to cycle to work.

The practice is a research and a training practice, linked with the Severn Deanery. We have a contract with the Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service and provide services on their behalf at TMC and also complete minor ops and joint injections. We have built up excellent relationships with the 7 practices in our local GP Network and are currently moving towards working more closely with these practices and the other 2 surgeries in Chard. We have an active TMC patient participation group and friends of TMC, who are keen to be involved in the surgery and to hold fundraising events.

So why should join Team Tawstock?

The Surgery, however busy we are, continually has feedback from patients as being a calm environment and this is a credit to every person working at TMC - not only for working hard and doing their best in caring for our patients, but also as a team in looking after each other. We have an open door policy where open door really does mean open door and we support our own staff as well as visiting clinicians and any locum staff members – treating them as if they are a permanent part of our team. Every person is important at TMC, from staff to patient to their family and beyond. I feel this is evidenced and reflected in NHS England’s GP patient survey, in which for the last 2 years we have been voted within the top 5 surgeries in Somerset, something which all of Team Tawstock are extremely proud of.

There is a lot to become involved in at TMC. We are focused on developing our staff and our team, and with the links we have with the wider community and through our network as a GP at TMC you will be able to create a personal development plan with SMART goals, which focus on lifelong learning. There will be opportunities for you to shadow professionals to gain further job understanding, therefore having the potential of exposure and development in all of the above areas as well as for you to lead and further develop Team Tawstock through sharing of your own knowledge and skills.

The location of TMC allows good work life balance, with the beauty of Somerset while being on the boarders of Devon and Dorset and we are 25 minutes away from the beautiful Jurassic coastline. There are also rail links to Exeter and London from the nearby Axminster, and we are within close proximity to the M5 and A303, with easy commutes to Exeter and Bristol airports.

Overall I am a great believer that your job is what you make it, and if you put in a lot then you get a lot out of it. Please get in touch with me if you are interested in coming to work at TMC or if you would like to know more. Interviews will be held on 7th November 2019 and informal visits are encouraged and we would be delighted to organise a surgery tour for you, with the opportunity to meet our team and to see for yourself all that TMC has to offer.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Inge
